Over 300,000 messages of support help realise creation of UNITAID’s patent pool
Thanks in no small part to the participation of thousands of individuals in the Make It Happen Campaign, UNITAID has announced the creation of the Patent Pool for AIDS medicines. The success of this campaign would not have been possible without your support, thank you!!

Final Figures
Over 28,000 participants and over 300,000 emails have been sent directly to the CEOs of the ten pharmaceutical companies being asked to put their patents in the pool and increase access to life saving medicines.

The UNITAID Executive Board is meeting in Geneva, to make a decision on whether to fund and set up the licensing agency that would run the Patent Pool for HIV medicines. Over 110,000 emails sent to the drug companies six weeks after our launch. We’re spreading more widely now – the latest boost online came from people signing up in Brazil and we also have a ream of handwritten signatures from South Africa, being sent over from the MSF projects in Khayelitsha just outside Cape Town. Three weeks in and so far nearly 11,000 people have submitted over 90,000 emails directly to the CEOs of drug companies. This is great news!
