There aren’t enough of these ‘fixed-dose combination’ drugs (FDCs) at the moment for either adults or children. A patent pool could change that and deliver lots of new FDCs, vastly increasing the treatment options for people with HIV in the developing world.
Here is a table of FDCs that it’s hoped the patent pool could deliver:
Fixed-dose combination therapies for Adults
| Double FDCs | TDF/FTC 3TC/AZT ABC/3TC LPV/r ATV/r FPV/r DVR/r |
| Triple FDCs | TDF/FTC/EFV TDF/3TC/EFV TDF/3TC/NVP TDF/FTC/NVP AZT/3TC/NVP 3TC/AZT/ABC d4T/3TC/NVP |
| Quadruple FDCs | LPV/r/TDF/3TC ATV/r/TDF/3TC ATV/r/3TC/ABC |
| Fixed-dose combinations in co-blister* | ddI+LPV/r/ABC ddI+LPV/r/3TC ddI+ATV/r/3TC TDF/3TC+NVP |
*means the two pills are presented in one blister pack
Fixed-dose combination therapies for Children
| Double FDCs | AZT/3TC d4T/3TC ABC/3TC EFV/FTC LPV/r ATV/r FPV/r DVR/r TPV/r |
