Given the lack of meningitis vaccines available globally, the current priority is to focus on treating patients. As such, the medical teams are busy diagnosing and treating patients as soon as possible in order to reduce morbidity and mortality.

In this series of case studies spanning 2012 to 2017, MSF Access Campaign analysed the barriers to access to lifesaving vaccines in five countries in which MSF has worked: South Sudan, South Africa, the Philippines, Niger, and Greece. These case studies examined issues faced by MSF medical teams in accessing pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) for childhood pneumonia and related diseases; and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for cervical cancer prevention.
